The game world is as big as can be achieved on the console

Nintendo is looking to release a brand new The Legend of Zelda video game on the Wii U home console, and it's apparently going to be a really big one.

The Japanese corporation previously stated that the action would take place in a fully connected open world, just like in the original The Legend of Zelda title did, with an emphasis on player freedom, offering them the chance to explore the realm at will.

The Legend of Zelda Producer Eiji Aonuma has revealed that the upcoming Wii U title pushes the console's hardware to its limits, being yet another example of Nintendo's dedication to offering fans a great experience.

"A huge, seamlessly unfolding world is something that can't be achieved if the hardware isn't advanced enough."

"Ever since we made the very first generation of Legend of Zelda games though, we've had as large a world as can be realized with the hardware, so you could say it was inevitable that we've now done the same with the new Wii U title," the producer tells GameReactor.

The core pillars of the game remain the same

He continues that the hardware has now advanced to the point where players can explore a vast world seamlessly, without the need for content to be separated and gated off, which means that it can be finally said that the next Zelda game is truly open world.

In addition to this, he also points out that the Wii U GamePad's second screen functionality will play a pretty big role in the upcoming adventure.

Gamers will be able to use the screen to map their adventure to the world, and Aonuma believes that it offers players a real sense of adventure, just like in real life, as a map is not something that you tuck away in your pocket, but something you always hold in your hand and check as you move forward.

The Legend of Zelda is expected exclusively on the Wii U home console from Nintendo, sometime later this year.
