Sony isn't reverting its decision and won't make separate versions of the game

Sony has confirmed that the multiplayer mode in The Last of Us Remastered for the PS4 remains censored for European audiences, despite the fact that very few countries have regulations against such a thing.

The Last of Us appeared originally for the PS3 last summer and delighted tens of millions of console owners from around the world with its top-notch story, the great survival-oriented gameplay, not to mention the pretty intense multiplayer.

However, Europeans were forced to endure a censored multiplayer experience with toned down gore and violence, despite the fact that the single-player campaign still had lots of violent content.

The reasoning for Sony was that some European countries have regulations against violent content in multiplayer experiences, such as Germany, so it decided to make the experience the same across the whole continent.

Now, ahead of the debut of the Remastered version of The Last of Us for the PS4, Sony has confirmed on its PS blog that the censored multiplayer is still in place.

"Multiplayer is the same as in the EU PS3 version – there have been no changes in this respect," Sony's Fred Dutton says.

No other details have been given about this decision and it's unclear just why Sony wouldn't make separate versions of the game for specific markets, like many other video game publishers.
