Video game developer Naughty Dog and publisher Sony are announcing that they are delivering a new multiplayer-focused update for The Last of Us, which is at the moment live on the PlayStation 4 Remastered version of the game and for the initial PS3 release.

Gamers will have to quit the game if they are running it in order to get access to the update, and the company says that the patch is designed to improve the overall balance of the versus experience, while also eliminating farming from Interrogation mode.

The version number for The Last of Us is now 1.06.027 for the PlayStation 4 and 1.11.027 on the PS3.

Naughty Dog says it has fixed some bugs that have been reported and introduced a range of balance tweaks to the most popular weapons and skills.

The matchmaking process for The Last of Us has also been updated and the developers explain that "Server now returns more matches in every search stage; this should result in more matches which fit the search criteria (latency / language / KDR / etc.) and lower matchmaking times.  We’ll be monitoring the stats to see how it performs."

Naughty Dog is currently focused on Uncharted 4

The fact that a new multiplayer update for The Last of Us is available will be a surprise for those who believe that all the resources at Naughty Dog are now dedicated to the development of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

The company has made it clear that it has no plans to introduce more downloadable content for the very successful title, but it's unclear whether there are any plans for more patches.

Uncharted 4 was initially planned to arrive on the PlayStation 4 before the end of the year, but the development team and Sony have announced that they were delaying it to 2016 in order to make sure that the quality of the experience was high.

This is supposed to be the final title starring Nathan Drake as the main character, and Naughty Dog has said that the story will see him fighting for all the people he loves and will feature some of the biggest levels ever introduced by the series.
