Naughty Dog has just revealed a brand new video for its upcoming The Last of Us survival title, this time showing off a cut-scene rendered with the game’s engine, in which the protagonists, Joel and Ellie, are driving through the ruins of Pittsburgh.

Naughty Dog may be famous for several franchises, like the recent Uncharted or the classic Jak and Daxter, but with The Last of Us, the studio is trying to prove that it’s still quite versatile.

We’ve heard quite a lot of promising things about the survival game and even admired it through screenshots and videos.

Now, a brand new trailer for the game has been released, showing off the protagonists, Joel and Ellie, as they make their way in a rusty pickup truck through the ruins of Pittsburgh.

While the whole world has been ravaged by a sort of virus, which resulted in an array of mutants running wild, the humans that are left are even more dangerous than the actual monsters.

“Joel and Ellie won't have an easy road ahead of them,” the studio said about the action in the video. “Their path across the US will intersect with other survivors, some of whom won't be friendly.”

“In this scene set to the somber chords of Hank Williams, Sr., Joel and Ellie continue their journey west in a battered pickup truck. As they drive towards the next destination on their route, and hopefully a place to find critical resources, the pair encounters a group of hunters. What happens next is something you have to witness to understand.”

Bear in mind that, like previous cinematic videos of The Last of Us, all the footage is rendered with the in-game engine, which was already used on the Uncharted games and shows that it can easily handle more urban environments, not just jungle or desert ones.

Expect to hear some more details about The Last of Us at E3 2012 in June, where Sony and Naughty Dog are set to show off the new PlayStation 3 exclusive game.

Until then, check out the video below.
