The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog has admitted that its new game has lots more room for other stories, but that potential sequels won't focus on protagonists Joel and Ellie, as their story ends in the upcoming title.

The Last of Us is one of the most anticipated PlayStation 3 games of the year and developer Naughty Dog has emphasized the great story in the title's single-player that focuses on Joel and Ellie, a pair of survivors that travel the USA after deadly fungal outbreak.

According to Creative Director Neil Druckmann, the studio did a lot of work researching the world and it believes that the universe is ripe for more stories.

However, while sequels aren't ruled out, Druckmann emphasizes that the story of Joel and Ellie ends with the current game and won't be left dangling.

"We were very conscious that we didn’t want to leave this story dangling. If we never do a sequel we’re ok with it, because we told the story we needed to tell," he tells PS blog.

Sony has already registered domain names for both The Last of Us 2 and The Last of Us 3.
