Square Enix sends word that they plan to launch their Xbox 360 role playing game The Last Remnant for the PC, using the Games for Windows service from Microsoft. The official release date has not been nailed down but spring 2009 is the period the company is aiming for.

John Yamamoto, who is the president and the chief executive officer of Square Enix Ltd., stated that “The Last Remnant represents a significant step in bringing our titles to a global audience and to all fans regardless of the platforms that they own. Following the Xbox 360 release, we hope to reach a new audience with the Games for Windows version of The Last Remnants and I hope that fans enjoy this exciting new adventure”.

The Last Remnant tells the story of Rush, who initially lived on Eulam Island with his sister Irina. The island is sheltered from the rest of the world, but this will not last. As the peace of Eulam is shattered, Rush sees as a group of soldiers kidnapping his sister; he is on a mission to find her.

The world of The Last Remnant is ravaged by war as powerful groups are trying to get their hands on mysterious artifacts that can grant powers to those who possess them.

The game offers a new battle system set to deliver large scale epic fights between the various factions and a system called Encounter, which is set to eliminate random battles. Square Enix used the Unreal 3 Engine to create the game and it looks very good on the Xbox 360, which means that the PC version will probably be even more beautiful, thanks to better textures and an optimized engine. The developers also say that they plan to introduce “new features not included in the original Xbox 360 release version”.
