Six year old disappointed

It's pretty much certain that video games do not directly lead to violence, but it's still debatable whether a certain kind of insanity is linked to them. Take this case from Norway as proof. One kid in that country was so impressed by the content of the Sonic series that he decided to ask the king of the country, Harald V, to legally change his name into Sonic X. Sadly, it is reported that the King has decided to turn down his request.

Christer is six year old and wrote a letter addressed to the King of Norway in which he requested for his name to be changed to Sonic X. Apparently, his life had been previously greatly influenced by all things Sonic, from anime to video games (we sure hope someone only showed him the early titles, as the latest ones are a bit atrocious). He wrote a letter, which he asked his parents to send by post.

The parents, older and wiser, did not do so, aware that the request was ludicrous and that the kid would probably not receive a reply. Still, it seems that the youngster, called Christer, is pretty audacious and, after a few months, he asked his parents why the letter had not been sent. His parents finally posted it and, amazingly, the King of Norway replied.

Sadly, Christer will not be known as Sonic X from now on, but not because the name itself would lead to public ridicule, but because not even the King of Norway has the power to change the name of one of his subjects before they get to the age of 18. So, Christer has another 12 years in which to ponder if his chosen name is really what he wants. Let's hope that he will outgrow his obsession with Sonic. Still, he should not be disappointed. Moved by his devotion, SEGA has decided to contact Christer in order to send him some Sonic-related stuff.
