Minutes after the Kardashian Christmas card for 2013 was unveiled, countless voices were writing it off as the most ridiculous, pompous, and absurd attempt at pop art. According to a new report, while it might be all that, it was definitely a very expensive attempt at pop art.

To Kardashian Kristmas Kard cost no less than $250,000 (€184,121) to make and required at least 3 whole days of actual shooting and preparing. That’s almost as much time and more money than to make a music video, and the results don’t compare.

Fashion photographer David LaChapelle shot the card, which would explain the high price tag. Luckily, insiders reveal for Radar Online, the Kardashian Klan didn’t pay a dime because the expense was handled by the network.

Considering the amount of media attention the card is getting right now (what people are actually saying about it is more or less irrelevant), we’d say that this was money well spent.

“[The photoshoot took] three days just to put the set together. David was extremely involved in all details of the set installation. It was Kim’s idea to get David to do the family photo Christmas picture,” says the tipster.

“At first, David balked because he does photo shoots for major magazines, but Kim convinced him to do it. It wasn’t a cheap photo shoot, and the production company of Keeping Up With The Kardashians paid the $250,000 invoice. Hair, make-up, wardrobe, were all paid for by production, and the Kardashians didn’t pay one dime for their Christmas card!” the insider continues.

LaChapelle also came with his own ideas about what he wanted the photo to be like, and that included leaving the men of the family out of it. Bruce Jenner refused to be excluded, though Scott Disick and Rob Kardashian had no problem with it, so he was featured behind Kris, trapped in a glass tube of some sorts.

Kanye West and Lamar Odom were also left out, as also was Kim’s baby girl with Kanye, North West, aka Nori.
