The KDE community will present KDE 4.0 with a Release Event at the Google headquarters in Mountain View, California on 17th to 19th January 2008.

The event will celebrate the long awaited release of KDE's new desktop environment and development platform. Representatives from businesses, journalists and other Free Software groups will participate in this event. Its goal is to help make KDE 4.0 known to the public as well as the way in which it will influence the future of the Free Desktop.

The Release Event aims to be both informative and productive, so the organizers have created an attractive schedule, so all the attendees can interact between themselves. Many interesting presentations that will involve technical and non-technical topics will take place. 200 members of the media, IT business, distributions and other Free Software groups were invited. Some KDE international hackers will give talks or help organize the event and all important keynotes and discussions will be available live over the Internet due to Fluendo's support.

Due to some financial and space issues, the organizers haven't invited all KDE developers, but they encourage local and regional KDE 4.0 release parties anywhere on the globe. The main keynote, by Aaron Seigo, will be scheduled at a time when all the international community meetings can see it live over the Internet.

Two days ago, on the 1st of October, the KDE Release Event organizers sent to almost every KDE developer from North America an e-mail containing an official invitation to attend to the occasion. These invitations include sponsored accommodations and food for the recipients of the e-mails.

The people from KDE hope this event will strengthen the KDE community in the USA and increase awareness about it and what this desktop environment can offer. They also want this release to introduce and educate the persons who aren't used to KDE.
