The Japanese Cellular Telephony Will Benefit from VoIP

- Starting with 2007

By: Tudor Raiciu, Technology and Science Editor

The 3G networks are already not that impressive for the Japanese, although in some advanced countries
this technology has been introduced for a short time. But Japan is readying a mobile communication network which will allow users to quickly and cheaply connect to the Internet, to talk through VoIP and to make faster data transfers.

According to the statements made by the Japanese officials, the government is preparing for 2007 a Voice Over IP mobile communication system, the desired performances being similar to those of the fixed networks.

Currently, the association of mobile communications with the WiFi technology only allows users to connect to the Internet through cell phones and hotspots.

Still, important efforts are made to enable WiFi phones to use a broader range of services and functions. Japan is one of the pioneer countries in this field, devising a network which supports broadband mobile data transmissions and video streaming being an important goal for them.

For now, there hasn’t been established what type of VoIP mobile technology would be more appropriate for such an amount of data.

The speed standard for the IP mobile technology is maximum 15MB per second, which is almost 1,000 times faster than the current 3G performance (384 kbps).
