Hackers pretend to be IRS now!

This is a recent one. It seems that the "IRS" rips off people - what do you mean you already knew that? No, I don't mean the real IRS, I mean hackers pretending to be The Internal Revenue Service! So what is actually happening is that some malicious users are sending a lot of spam messages to many users, telling them that they can get 80 bucks if they fill out some web-based survey. I got this information from Poughkeepsie Journal, but they didn't say too much about the way things worked with this scam. I suppose it's just standard-issue "Click my link and get a trojan!" or "Give me your data and get an account depletion for free!" hacker tactic.

In any case, this has been considered to be a pretty serious issue by the IRS who has advised all taxpayers to ignore this spam. They have also stated that they do no contact people trough e-mail, as I've seen on the same site I mentioned above. This seems a pretty fair motive to ignore/delete any e-mail that is said to come from the IRS. In any case, if you want to help stop this spam campaign, you can forward any of these IRS-based scam mails to this address.

It's all a game of pretend for hackers these days. Hey, I'm a huge corporation, just begging to give you money, oh, please click on the link! Or, oh, I am the King of Keennia, never mind that I can't spell Kenya, but I need your IBAN to transfer some cash! And there are even some funny scam mails as well. Possibilities are endless with these guys so be on your toes and if you don't know for sure who the mail comes from, don't bother with it too much!
