At least on the beaches from a Caribbean resort

The number of people who use various types of gadgets almost on a daily basis has skyrocketed over the past few years and now you can see a mobile phone, an iPod or a PDA wherever you look. However, it would seem that this gadget overflow is affecting quite a lot of people in a negative way, as they want to escape their presence at least when they're on vacation, if not more often. And this is exactly the reason why a Caribbean resort has decided to provide exactly this service for its customers and banned the use of most types of gadgets on any of its beaches.

Thus, according to an article by Jeremy Skidmore for "The Telegraph", Palm Island, a very nice holiday destination in the Grenadines, is the first "gadget-free oasis" in the region, providing users a true escape from the tools that make their ordinary daily lives so stressful. The decision seems to be quite a serious one, as Elite Island Resorts, the owner of Palm Island, has told guests they will not be able to use mobiles, laptops or PDAs within a half-mile radius of the main Casarina beach.

And it would seem that the move is backed up by some pretty serious reasons. Thus, as Rob Barrett, chief executive of Elite Island Resorts, said for the "Telegraph", "There is nothing worse than lying back in your double hammock, sipping on your strawberry daiquiri and hearing the Motorola jingle in the background. We would love to encourage guests to adopt Caribbean time during their stay with us, switch off their mobiles and enjoy the sound of the lapping waves", he added.

Although this doesn't necessarily mark the beginning of some sort of anti-gadget movement, the truth of the matter is that these things (especially mobile phones) can prove to be quite stressful in some situations. And even if I can't imagine a life without them, it would be a good idea to leave them home, at least when we don't really need to use them, and simply....relax!

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed.
