Video glasses are nothing new, since we've already seen several models hit the market during the past few years, but any new addition to this field is quite welcome, since portable video playback is becoming more and more popular with
the users. And the device you're about to see, namely the AV230 from Icuiti, promises some pretty interesting features, as for example, the possibility to enjoy your own 44 inches (112 cm) home theater for about 4-5 ours, wherever you might be.
As most devices of this type, the AV230 (actually twin high-resolution 320x240 LCD displays) can be worn as a pair of sunglasses, and includes separate focus adjustments and built-in removable high quality stereo headphones. The device also sports an in-line rechargeable battery, built into the single cable, and is compatible with a wide variety of video signal sources, from DVD players to gaming consoles and cellular phones with video output. Here is a more complete list of the technical features and specifications these things offer:
- Weight: 114 grams;
- 320x240 (230,000 pixels) resolution;
- Equivalent to a 44 inches (112 cm) screen viewed at 9 feet (275 cm);
- Offers 24 bit true color (16 million colors);
- Automatic 2D/3D images selector;
- NTSC and PAL compatible;
- Offers precision focus adjustments (+2 to -5 diopters);
- The soft, comfortable, hypoallergenic nosepiece extends up to 3/8 inches (0.95 cm);
- Compatible with a wide variety of video signal sources.
The AV230 video-glasses from Icuiti will start shipping December 1st (just in time for the Christmas shopping spree), and will be priced at around $269, quite on the expensive side. However, when one takes into consideration the possibility to enjoy one's favorite shows just about anywhere, the price tag seems all of a sudden a lot more appealing.
