Christopher Poole, founder of the controversial site 4chan, has announced his resignation as a 4chan gatekeeper today. He has delegated his responsibilities to several long-time volunteers, and says that nothing should change in terms of how the site is experienced every day.

We’ve embedded Poole’s announcement in full at the end of the article below, but for those of you who want the gist of it, the 4chan founder basically said he needed some me-time.

“I'll need time away to decompress and reflect, but I look forward to one day returning to 4chan as its Admin Emeritus or just another Anonymous, and also writing more about my experience running 4chan on my personal blog,” he wrote, signing off as moot, the screen name he started with.

Move along, nothing to see here

Despite his post being written on what appears to be a low note, moot assures 4chan followers that the site isn’t having any financial problems, and that a handful of senior volunteers – including the lead developer, managing moderator, and server administrator – will make sure the transition goes smoothly.

moot’s day-to-day duties will now be handled by a few trusted volunteers who’ve been around to serve 4chan for the better part of its existence.

As a post scriptum, the 4chan founder also announced that he would be holding a Q&A this afternoon, to “hold court with the community one last time.” As moot himself puts it, 4chan has faced a lot of controversy throughout the years, much of which had to be dealt with by a single guy.
