The Halloween DLC for Rock Band is More of a Trick than a Treat

MTV Games and Harmonix are somewhat getting into the Halloween spirit with their new downloadable content pack for Rock Band. It's only a halfhearted play by the company, since the only real artist in the list with a spooky “touch” is Rob Zombie and all other pale in comparison to his creepy presence. The tracks will become available tomorrow for the Xbox 360 and Wii, while the PlayStation Store will only see them on Thursday, October 29.

Rob Zombie will bring three titles to the DLC, two from his debut solo album, Hellbilly Deluxe, and one from the upcoming album, Hellbilly Deluxe 2. It seems like Harmonix is really into the southern trend with the Hellbilly theme, but one can't deny the nice selection it made. The popular “Dragula” is part of the lucky three picked by the developer, with “Superbeast” being the second. The Hellbilly Deluxe 2 song is “Burn” and it will give us a bit of an idea of what the new album will sound like. If you're in the mood for even more Zombie, you can always hurry up to the theaters and see his Halloween 2 movie, which the artist wrote, directed and produced.

The Halloween theme pretty much ends here, as the rest of the tunes are a lot mellower. The Wolfmother is the next band to be on the DLC, and, even though it has a heavier note than the other bands found lower on the list, it doesn't even come close to the Zombie. Still, the band did won the 2007 Grammy Award for “White Unicorn” and “Woman,” two songs that will be part of Rock Band. Wolfmother adds three more tracks to the DLC before going back to its business, “New Moon Rising,” “Pilgrim” and “Sundial.”

The last three songs have completely drifted away from the spirit of All Hallows Eve. Morningwood's “Best of Me” and “Sugarbaby,” as well as “Rock Me” by Liz Phair, end the pack and make it ready to be shipped out on the web. Except for Morningwood's tunes that will go for $0.99 or 80 Microsoft points and 100 Wii Points each, all items are priced at $1.99 or 160 Microsoft points and 200 Wii Points. The Rob Zombie and Wolfmother songs will be given away as a bundle as well, with all of Zombie's tracks priced at $5.49 and Wolfmother's at $8.49.
