Can you set your house on fire with just a digital camera? If you own a HP Photosmart R707 digital camera, you only need an AC adaptor or a docking station.

Hewlett-Packard warns owners of the R707 model that certain non-rechargeable batteries can overheat and even catch fire when the camera is connected to the AC adapter or to the docking station.

The 679,000 cameras which are susceptible to this problem were sold between August 2004 and April 2006.

HP says that so far it has received one report of a camera catching fire, damaging the camera and its docking station, and causing minor smoke damage to the room. No injuries have been reported.

To solve the problem, the well-known producer has released an updated firmware and advises all users, even those who use rechargeable batteries, to download it.

HP adds that the owners of the R707 model should not use single-use, non-rechargeable batteries until they have completed the update.

The firmware upgrade for the HP Photosmart R707 is available here.
