Reportedly, The Great Tree was very popular when it was released on the PC last December, because it brought a grown-up story of good and evil together with "surprising" gameplay and "stunning moments that are unlike anything you'll find in any other game." Quite a hefty description, you have to agree. Nevertheless, the game is now available for Mac, in case this is what you've been waiting for since last year.

Reflexive Entertainment claims that after months of thoughtful work, the company was able to confirm the Mac release of The Great Tree, "putting the survival of an enchanted world into the hands of Mac users everywhere," according to the official report. "Watching a mushroom that you thought was just a pretty picture in the background open its eyes, change its expression and then open its mouth to try to eat you is just one of many amazing moments in this game that will startle, surprise and in the end simply amaze you," said Ion Hardie, Director of Product Development. "It contains moments that are as unique and enjoyable as anything I've ever seen in any game."

The Great Tree has players visiting a beautiful, but dark world full of magic and mystery, according to Reflexive, having been drawn and painted by the same artist behind Wik: Fable of Souls, one of the company's best known titles. With the help of the talented artist, "the epic story has been carefully put together through blood, sweat and tears, to bring players a unique gaming experience."

So, in the game, you take on the role of one of the Wren selected to collect pollen. You hear the story through cinematic interludes and then go about your business through the game's levels. You'll get the chance to use magical powers and agile movements, but you will have to look out for "innovative enemies that literally come alive from the background in ways that are both exciting and horrifying." A total of 100 levels containing all this await you.

Visit The Great Tree website for more information and a demo version of the game for Mac. A gameplay manual is also available for the fans.
