The Golf Club is available as a digital download on Steam for PC, and on the Xbox One through Xbox Live, and the PlayStation 4 version of the game will follow within the next few weeks, HB Studios has announced.

The Golf Club is a simulation golf video game coming from independent developer HB Studios, and although the game was initially scheduled to come out on all three platforms simultaneously, the developers decided against artificially holding the game back on the PC and Xbox One platforms, just because the PS4 version wasn't ready to go yet.

According to the developer, the PlayStation 4 version of The Golf Club is still "pending certification approval," and the studio expects the release on Sony's next-gen platform to take place sometime later this month.

This is a very good time for upstarts such as HB Studios to have their golf game get its foot in the door, as EA Sports is on a break from its PGA Tour golf simulation series.

The Golf Club is a full-fledged golfing simulator in its own right, rather than focused on arcade action, and is built on the Unity engine.

The Golf Club's main feature is it massive course creator, a level editor that enables gamers to design their own full-featured, 18-hole golf course from scratch.

The course creator normally uses procedural generation to build various custom courses, based on a series of parameters that can be set by the users, and players who access the level editor can utilize the entire array of functions that the game uses to create courses.

The playgrounds that gamers create can then be shared with other players, all across the three different platforms, and the game already ships with a large selection of pre-designed courses, so you can jump straight into the action.

The game currently has Stroke Play, Match Play and 4-ball modes available, with asynchronous online play, and features no loading times between holes on a course.

The refined controls that HB Studios has created are fine-tuned to offer a swing mechanic that enables users to focus on flow and fluidity, rather than on hitting a marker on the power bar.

Players who want to perform well in The Golf Club have to take into account ball lie, weather and terrain conditions, in addition to having to possess an overall solid grasp for the different type of golf shots.
