One step closer to buddhism?

Does anyone remember a certain movie that starred Eddie Murphy, called "The Golden Boy"? Well, in any case, the little Buddha kid could do a few magic tricks in that flick, but this week's Chinese handset release I doubt that will do any magic at all.

We are not sure in which category to put this phone: funny but strange ideas, or just simply ridiculous stuff that some people behind technology came up with. Now, to set the record straight, the whole fuss is about a Shaolin Buddha theme and design that inspired the making of this phone. Besides screaming for attention, the Shaolin phone features a touchscreen, microSD support, and a camera (the megapixel count is unknown). But, the Chinese didn't stop here. The menu of phone has the same Shaolin/Buddha theme, as many other certificates that come with it; the phone is plated with a layer of 24K gold. You'll automatically think that this makes the handset expensive, but if you really want this cellphone, you'll learn that it just looks expensive.

When you see this phone, the first thing that comes to your mind is the question: "Who designed this stuff?" And I guess for his/her own good, the identity should be kept a secret. I guess he/she has't heard about the "Simple is elegant" philosophy.

Then, another theory rises: what if, in the end, people will actually LIKE this? What if Buddha will become more popular than ever? And then, what if other confessions will want their own religion themed handsets? Muslims will crave over Allah cellphones, "blinged" with religious ring tones about their god, as the Christians will want their Jesus Christ crucifix-phones.

Before any of these things happen, let's pray that a religious craving phone fashion won't start with this Shaolin Golden Phone.
