Giana Sisters for the DS is a remake of The Great Giana Sisters that came out in 1987. The game was released on the C64 and Amiga, but was quickly removed from the market, due to law-suit threats from Nintendo. The Sisters were infringing copyrights, as the title showed stunning similarities to the Super Mario franchise. Twenty years later, the Sisters return, this time under the watchful eye of Nintendo.

The game is published by dtp entertainment AG and is developed by Bitfield GmbH. It was released on April 3, 2009 and has a PEGI rating of 3. The Sisters will scroll across the screen in a classic, side-scrolling platform, gathering as many diamonds as they can in their search for the mysterious castle. The port to the DS has brought several modifications to the title. These include over 80 new levels for the sisters to explore, with brand-new items scattered all over, all to make better use of the DS platform.

The touch-screen can be used to collect a bubble-gum item that will enable Giana to fly. The make-shift weather balloon is controlled by blowing into the microphone and, even if it won't take our heroine around the world in 80 days, it will make completing the level easier. Another feature brought by the DS version is the presence of a world map that allows for level replay.
