The Gears of War franchise is one of the most popular third-person shooter series currently available to gamers. It showcased the power of the Xbox 360 with the first title, and the recently launched Gears of War 2 broke sale records even though it wasn't quite up to par, in the opinion of a lot of fans.

Of course, Hollywood wasn't oblivious to this success and announced a few months ago that a movie adaptation of Epic Games' franchise would be made, aiming to share the huge fan base with the video games, which were extremely popular.

MTV has recently talked with screenwriter Chris Morgan, who offered a status update on how things were going with the production of the movie. He revealed that things were shaping up greatly and that gamers would certainly be extremely happy with the adaptation that his team had made.

“A draft went in and we’re talking about it now and we’re budgeting it out,” Morgan revealed. “It’s looking incredibly good. I think the gamer side is going to be thrilled with it. All the stuff you want to see, we put that in there and then we blow it out a little more, even. Now it’s just a matter of honing in on all of the character arcs and determining production types of things.”

Morgan also pinpointed that the scope of the whole movie would be a very huge one, with the budget needing to satisfy the intricate story of the video games. “ It’s huge. One of the things they’re really talking about now is the budget of the film and how big of a spectacle this is going to be. My argument is, look at the underlying material. Look at the game and the scenario — the fact that the world is being taken over by the Locust, it has to be huge.”

All in all, let's just hope that the team at New Line Cinema won't follow in the footsteps of other video game-to-movie adaptations and really deliver a great experience to all of the Gears of War fans.
