Microsoft has yet to wrap up version 3.0 of the SQL Server JDBC Driver, but the company is already starting to plan the future versions of the driver. In this regard, the software giant is ready to tap customers, developers and partners for feedback, with the promise that input will be used to drive the evolution of the technology. At this point in time, SQL Server JDBC Driver 3.0 is offered via the Microsoft Download Center as a Type 4 JDBC driver designed to offer database connectivity by leveraging the standard JDBC application program interfaces (APIs) that ship in Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 5.

The Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Planning Survey is now live with Microsoft inviting all companies using the driver to provide answers to a collection of questions that will end up impacting the evolution of future versions of JDBC. The survey will only be online until next week.

“The Microsoft SQL Server JDBC team is reviewing the long term priorities, goals and identifying areas that will benefit from investments to help our customers. We view you and your organization as key stakeholders in this process. Your input will help shape our future product plans and is greatly appreciated. Survey should take no more than 10 minutes. This survey will remain open until April 5th. Thank you for taking the time to take part in this survey,” Amina Saify, program manager SQL Connectivity Database Systems Group Microsoft, revealed.

At the start of this month, SQL Server JDBC Driver 3.0 Community Technology Preview (CTP) was made available for download for early adopters. Devs can also continue running JDBC Driver 2.0, however, the same is not valid for JDBC Driver 1.2. After the release of version 3.0 CTP, Microsoft announced that it was discontinuing SQL Server JDBC Driver 1.2 downloads.
