The Future of Computers Lies Within a Shelf

Forget everything you know about today's computers, regardless if you're a PC owner or a Mac lover! Forget about cases, making sure enough air gets in, sticking in video cards or any other components in the motherboard (in fact, forget the whole motherboard)! We know it's tough to give up all the years spent meddling inside the computer, especially with the PC, but in the not so faraway future, you might have to deal with a new type of equipment. The perfect expression to describe the new concept would be "hardware telepathy".

We are talking about a new project from Asus, the well-known Taiwanese producer, presented in exclusivity to Reghardware.com.

The core of the Green PC concept is a technologically advanced component, the shelf. Asus sees the computers of the future as a series of interchangeable modules which are put on a shelf without having any cable between them.

These modules are in fact narrow boxes of different dimensions, each with a well-defined role: processor, hard disk, memory, graphics card and so on.

Not having any cable running between them, they would communicate wirelessly to see each other and to exchange data. We were telling a few phrases back about the technologically advanced component. Its role would be to power all the modules through induction.

Markus Wierzoch, the Asus representative who showed Reghardware.com the Green PC concept said there wasn't a specific date for making a functional prototype, but he expressed his confidence in the feasibility of such a computer.
