Ever since Chris Brown and Rihanna broke up about 3 years ago, after he brutally attacked her and beat her to a bloody pulp, as police records described it, speculation about their relationship has never ceased to make headlines. Rihanna is finally addressing all those rumors.

The pop star has spoken about the relationship she maintained with her ex before, but never in as specific terms as she does now, in a very emotional interview with Oprah for her OWN channel.

An excerpt from the interview is below, while more is available here, on the official page.

To put it shortly, Rihanna has never ceased to love Chris no matter how badly he hurt her. She believed she once did and that she hated him, but she realized it wasn't so.

She will always love him because he is and will remain the love of her life, she says with determination. However, they're not together and will probably never be again.

As we also noted on a previous occasion, Rihanna maintains that she and Chris are now just good friends, having worked hard on this relationship ever since the restraining order barring him from making contact was lifted.

“He's in a relationship of his own. I'm single, but we have maintained a very close friendship ever since the restraining order has been dropped. We've just worked on it little by little and it has not been easy. It's not easy,” Rihanna says, almost choking on tears.

She occasionally hangs out with Chris but not because they set out on purpose to do so: they just happen to have common friends so inevitably their paths will cross.

“It's awkward,” she says, “because I still love him. My stomach drops and I have to maintain this poker face and not let it get to the outer part of me.”

Rihanna knows she will never stop loving Chris but, at the same time, she wishes him nothing but the best in his life without her.

“Absolutely, I think he was the love of my life. He was the first love and I see that he loved me the same way. We were very young and very spontaneous. We ran free. We ran wild. We were falling in love and going at a really rapid pace and we forgot about ourselves as individuals,” she explains.

“I truly love him. The main thing for me is that he is at peace. You know, I'm not at peace if he's a little unhappy or if he's still lonely. I care. It actually matters that he finds that peace,” Rihanna adds.
