Good looks, not brains

Let's get rid of foolish misconceptions: no, men don't look for intelligent women! What they want, and most of us know it, is a blue-eyed, blond-haired woman who gains less than her boyfriend or husband, not touching this way his masculine pride (now we know why we don't find Paris attractive).

The latest research, carried out by the online dating site ukdating.com, was made on a poll of 66,000 men, who appeared to be eager to date a woman who was not heavier than 60 kg (132 pounds), lived on her own and occasionally wore glasses. 54% of the subjects avoided a possible mate earning over ?25,000 ($ 50,000) annually.

The top ten of the men's preferences were "blue eyes," "long blond hair" and "occasionally wears glasses," while intelligence remained at the end of the desired traits. In the end, good looks, a wacky behavior and optimism were aspects that counted. Just 15% of the subjects would date a woman with a pessimistic or cynical attitude.

Old myths have been debunked: the amount of housework or the culinary skills of the women really did not matter, but good sex certainly reached the top of the priorities, being the seventh required trait/skill.

And the research also comes with bad (or let's say, official) news for tall women: only 20% of the men find attractive a woman taller than 6ft (1.8 m).

The ideal woman also drives her own car (favored brands being Ford Ka or Mazda MX5) and enjoy night life, including clubs, pubs and restaurants. Most men prefer pet lover, non-smoking women, who drink alcohol only occasionally. The ideal annual wage of a woman should be, in order to be regarded as a suitable partner, of ?10,000 to 25,000 ($ 20,000 to 50,000).

"It's interesting to note that in this world of size zeros and calorie counting, men are more interested in height than weight, and prefer a medium build girl to a skinny girl. This research just goes to show that men are as selective with their choice of date as women are, and know exactly what they want," said David Brown, managing director of ukdating.com.

The same site made a similar research on women, published earlier this year, showing how women see Mr. Right. He must be clean-shaven, good-looking and drive a silver Mercedes, but before all, to be taller than 178cm (5ft 10in). Add to this the blue eyes, short dark-brown hair and medium build.

The perfect lover must adore pets (only 1% of women would accept a guy who hates pets) and offer the woman fine wine, theater tickets and dinners at nice restaurants. He should wear smart jeans and a posh T-shirt, weigh around 80.5kg (177 pounds) and if he is a doctor or lawyer earning $ 65,000 annually and possessing a home in the Home Counties, evaluated at about $ 600,000, that's even better.

He also must have experience, at least 3 relationships in his history, but no more than 6 sexual partners; he shouldn't have been married or have any children. University degree gives a lot of extra-points, while smokers and football fans are largely rejected.

Fortunately, only 60% of the women look for Mr. Right; one third would give us a chance. 68% of the subjects preferred a man with a wacky sense of humor. 21% of the subjects wanted "cuddly lovers," while 16% preferred balding Bruce Willis like partner. 11% wanted a ginger man and 18% a gray-haired one. 28% of the women were not interested in wage (this is what I call a surprise!...).
