LucasArts will personally take control of development

Rumors about a new Star Wars game have been flying around the Internet for about three weeks now, and the Video Game Awards came to confirm the gossip. While some of us hoped for a new installment in the Knight of the Old Republic series, or even better, a new Republic Commando that would reveal what happened to our favorite clones, it turned out that LucasArts was in fact working on a brand-new Star Wars The Force Unleashed title. The trailer that revealed the game at the VGA promised quite a bit for this sequel, and foretold a title with quite a bit of story development.

As for the people that will work on the game, it seems like this will be an in-house production, and LucasArts will be the one at the reins of this battle chariot. When asked exactly who would be the one that would force-push the title on our gaming rigs, the President of LucasArts, Darrell Rodriguez, said that, “Our internal team here in San Francisco will be focused on the game in addition to other development partners. The San Francisco team is made up of TFU veterans who are all bringing their hard earned muscle memory to the development process.”

If we're lucky, the PC version will also have a proper release this time around and, while we're grateful Aspyr brought the game, even in this form, it would be nice if the platform got to experience at least a half-decent Force Unleashed II. As for Rodriguez's statement, no further details are available about the “other development partners,” but he did let another little bit of information slip regarding their future plans.

According to Rodriguez, the company is also “hiring for some other unannounced products that we are internally developing as well,” so not only are we going to see another Star Wars game pretty soon, but some of our previous hopes that were crushed by TFU II might be resurrected, and some of the titles that we wanted to see brought back to life might see the daylight after all.
