Users are reporting serious problems with apps purchased on the App Store

The App Store hasn't even been properly set up yet and users are already reporting application crashes, lags and other issues. In fact, "not properly set up" is probably the correct term to use.

"I downloaded some apps to use with the 2.0 update on my new iPhone 3G," says a poster on Apple Discussions. "The problem is when I click an app to use it, it will act like it is opening, hang for a second, then go back to my home screen. Anybody else experiencing this or know a solution?"

Another user replied, advising the disappointed iPhone 3G owner to delete the app from the iPhone - "put the iPhone in to edit mode and tap the 'X' icon" were his exact words - and then to simply delete the app from the iTunes library. "You should now be able to purchase/download the app again from the iTunes Store on your computer - you shouldn't be charged again at all. Once you've downloaded it to iTunes, sync it to your iPhone," he noted and, as it turns out, what he said is true. Once you've purchased an app via the iTunes App Store, if you encounter any difficulties running it, you can just delete it and repeat the steps of downloading and installing the same app at no extra charge.

Still, it is no pleasant resolution, especially when some users (reportedly) have to reset their devices. To do this, you must tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings on your iPhone, just in case you needed this quick solution.

"Of particular note," MacsimumNews has observed, "is a problem with interface lag. Response to a command follows well after the actual input. While resetting can provide a temporary fix, the issue is widespread enough to affect both old and new iPhones, is usually gradual in nature, and is leaving some to conclude that a memory leak is present, which, over time, degrades performance."

Clearly, Apple will have to issue an immediate fix to these widespread issues surrounding the installation and running of apps downloaded through the App Store. In light of recent iPhone 3G news, it is something of a priority for Apple (to say the least).

Other reports have revealed that Apple might be testing iPhone OS 2.0.1. Whether they are true or not, an update to software 2.0 is a certainty by the end of next week.
