Several handsets running the new and improved Windows Mobile 6 were competing on which hits the market and shops first. And it's easy to understand what all the fuss is about, since Windows Mobile 6-powered devices are most likely to draw a lot of customers who are interested in seeing what improvements the OS brings.

The device running it might not even be that important anymore for some, as long as it's running the OS. Which is why the handset to hit the market first should be a big success regardless of the brand it bears. Finally, the first ever device running Windows Mobile 6 available on the market is one manufactured by the Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC, the S710, which is not surprising at all, as HTC has quite a few handsets planned for release throughout this year.

As usual, the S710 packs a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for a more convenient messaging and text input experience, new versions of Mobile Office applications and greater interoperability with Exchange Server 2007 leading to better email management, Out-of-Office assistant and HTML email viewing capabilities.

From a more technical point of view, the handset includes 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, a MicroSD card slot for memory expansion, WiFi and Bluetooth for connectivity, support for tri-band GSM, GPRS, EDGE and USB Mini-A connector. As size, it's pretty standard HTC smartphone, measuring 100 mm X 50 mm X 18 mm and weighing 120 grams.

Customers anxiously expecting a Windows Mobile 6 smartphone to hit the market will be happy to hear that the HTC S710 is now available (even in stock) and can be bought online, here.
