Windows Mobile 6.5 is one operating system that a wide range of mobile phone users is expecting to become available on the market. However, Microsoft won't have it out of the labs until this fall, as many of you might already know, when the first phones to include it are estimated to be available for purchase, while existing WM-powered devices eligible for an upgrade will exchange the WinMo 6.1 with the upcoming version.

Anyway, that would only be the official scenario, as a mobile phone running under Windows Mobile 6.5 is already shipping. We are talking about the Touch Viva Shanzhai Flagship, which is nothing more than a clone of the HTC Touch Viva, and which is running under a ripped Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM, yet one that resembles very much the real operating system.

What the handset can offer users includes a 2.8-inch display that provides a 240 x 320 pixel resolution, coupled with a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper, along with Wi-Fi capabilities, quad-band GSM and EDGE connectivity, and a battery that should offer up to 10 days of standby time. At the same time, it seems that the device is powered by a HUAWEI HiSilicon K3 platform with a 460MHz processor.

It is rather interesting that HUAWEI is offering its hardware solution for the clone phone market, yet, according to ClonedinChina.com, the HiSilicon K3 platform offers clone phone makers the possibility to develop smartphones.

As for the new Touch Viva Shanzhai Flagship, it comes with a price tag of $162, showing the advantage of not paying license fees. It should be interesting to see how much traction the cloned Windows Mobile 6.5 phone will have on the market, as well as what other hardware capabilities it will include, not to mention the features of the ripped OS it comes with, so stay tuned to learn more details on this as soon as they become available.
