Windows 8 will get the chance to make a name for itself on October 25 as part of a conference held in New York City and, because we're getting closer to the official debut, interesting bits about the new OS are now reaching our ears (and eyes).

An article published by FasCoDesign.com reveals that the first Windows 8 mockup was created in 2010 by a team led by two important Microsoft officials, namely Sam Moreau, the director of user experience for Windows, and Jensen Harris, a Windows designer.

The two formed a 150-member group that was responsible for the development of the new Windows 8, with the main focus on a revolutionary design that could set the new OS apart.

This is how they created the Metro appearance, but what's more interesting is that they also had an internal codename for Microsoft's upcoming operating system: Pocahontas. This was finally replaced by “8,” which makes a lot more sense since its predecessor is called 7.
