14 DAY TRIAL // Customers running the latest iteration of the Office System will need to deploy security updates from Microsoft in October 2010, just as users still leveraging older releases of the productivity suite.
This month’s patch package releases also contain security bulletins designed to plug holes in Office 2010 RTM, as well as in the Cloud extension of the product, Office Web Apps.
It is the first time since Office 2010 was released to manufacturing in April 2010 that the Redmond company offers patches for the solution.
October 2010 has marked the availability of patches for no less than 26 vulnerabilities in various releases of Office 2010.
Earlier this week a total of 16 security bulletins were released, set up to resolve 49 security bulletins in Windows, Internet Explorer, Office and the .NET Framework.
“On Tuesday, October 12th, 2010, Microsoft Office released 3 security bulletins. The security updates apply to:
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Office SharePoint Foundation 2010 described in the security bulletin MS10-072.
Microsoft Office Word 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010, Word Viewer, Word Compatibility Pack, and Microsoft Office Web Apps as described in MS10-079.
Microsoft Office Excel 2002, 2003, 2007, Excel Viewer, Excel Compatibility Pack as described in security bulletin MS10-080,” revealed a member of the Microsoft Office Sustained Engineering team.
All three Office security bulletins are rated Important, meaning that they are not necessarily a priority for customers, although its recommended that they be downloaded and deployed as soon as possible.
MS10-072 impacts not only Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010, but also Microsoft Groove Server 2010 and Microsoft Office Web Apps, with users remaining at risk of information disclosure until the bulletin is introduced in their environment.
MS10-079, also rated Important, impacts both the 32-bit and the 64-bit flavors of the Word component in Office 2010.
However, the Excel component in Office 2010 managed to dodge the vulnerabilities patched with the MS10-080 security bulletin.
