As the name could make you think, this reader is capable of recognizing almost anything but your future by reading the stars.
The Star reader has an amazing array of supported cards: CF I/ CF II/ EXTREME III CF/ EXTREME CF/ ULTRA II CF/ HS CF/ XS-XS CF/ CF ELITE PRO/ CF PRO/ CF PRO II/ IBM MD/ HITACHI MD/ MAGIC STORE MS / MS PRO/ MS DUO/ MS PRO DUO/ MS MG PRO/ MS MG / MS MG DUO / MS MG PRO DUO/ EXTREME MS PRO / EXTREME III MS PRO/ ULTRA II MS PRO/ HS MS MG PRO/ HS MS MG PRO DUO/ HS MS PRO/ HS MS PRO DUO/ MS ROM / MS SELECT SD/ MINI SD / HS MINI SD/ EXTREME SD/ EXTREME III SD/ ULTRA II SD/ SD-ULTRA-X/ULTRA SPEED SD/ SD PRO/ SD ELITE PRO/ HS SD / Micro SD MMC/ MMC 4.0/ HS MMC/ HS RS MMC/ RS MMC/ RS MMC 4.0/ MMC Mobile/ SM/ SM ROM/ SIM Card. If you don't have your card listed above, then you are a time traveler and you have no business reading this article.

Notice the last type? It's a SIM Card. As far as I know, this is the first reader in the world that has this option. It means that you can basically manage all of your phonebook numbers (and SMS, MMS, or other various features, depending on the SIM) without using a phone. You can make copy of your contacts on another card almost effortless, using the SIM Editor software, provided on a CD when you purchase the reader.

The Operation Systems Supported are Windows XP (SP2), 2000(SP4), Windows ME, and even Windows 98SE. Using the USB 2.0/1.1 port, you can obtain a maximum of 480Mbps data transfer speed. The reader dimensions are 87.5 X 53 X 16 (mm) and its weight is 52 grams (that is an interesting 1 gram per supported card type).

So, if you need to read something, use a Star.

So, what's about xD and xD Picture cards? Unfortunately, it doesn't support them. That's very odd, concerning the fact that these 'xD' cards were introduced into the market in July 2002. And, now it's August 2008, but there is still no 'All-in-One' card reader capable to 'read' all cards! Alas. However, if you need to manage your SIM card based phone book, this MSI gadget will do the job! Cheers!

It does support xD cards. just tested that myself. works fine.

Having a bunch of trouble to get an old CF card to read, though... even though it works fine in the old Canon A40 it's used in.

"if you need to manage your SIM card based phone book, this MSI gadget will do the job!"... IF you use a MS Windows OS!
I bought this (convenient) card reader, but I detected myself that the SIM card editor software (v4.0) ONLY runs under MS Windows (the vendor only confirmed me about this afterwards! :-( )... Despite this SIM card reader (or at least the firm MSI) claims to be the "First SIM Card Reader in The World"!
So, if you belong to the fast growing 'community' of Mac OS-X (or Linux) users, you can NOT read at all your SIM cards... This sounds to me like a strong discrimintation of people who don't have Windows (and they may have good reasons for not having MS Windows!!), and it again looks like some awful domination of the software market (and correspondingly the hardware market as well, if no drivers for MacOS X are available for that hardware!) by Microsoft, that wants to establish a monopoly DESPITE the existence of many good (better??) operating systems...
Anway, if there is someone who knows about software under Mac OS X for the MSI Star SIM card reader, I would be very happen to learn about this!

This reader really messes up my finder in Mac OS Snow leopard and before that as well. SIM can only be read on Windows machines; my Mac does not even work well with SD cards in this reader; they do not show up at all or refuse to be ejected or refuse to accept data and so forth. Do not use on Apple computers; it's a disappointment and a waste of time and money. On Windows it works well but you have to download software for reading your SIM..
