Distributed as a 64-bit ISO image with EFI support

Jacque Montague Raymer had the pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download of the MakuluLinux Unity 8 computer operating system. This is the first ever edition of the MakuluLinux distribution to use the Unity desktop environment from the upstream Ubuntu Linux OS.

MakuluLinux Unity 8 is based on the Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS (Trusty Tahr) operating system, it’s distributed as a 64-bit Live DVD that supports UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) systems, and provides users with some unique features that cannot be found in the Unity desktop of any Ubuntu distribution.

“Now sporting a unique 3 panel system that allows the user complete control of his system without even needing to minimize a window. This release is 64bit with EFI support and offers the Constructor tool to re-spin your own custom ISO. There are so many more features that simply make this Edition stand out! It is not just unity, it is Makulu Unity,” was stated in the release announcement.

Highlights of MakuluLinux Unity 8 include a three-panel system, a unique multi-mode bottom panel, a traditional menu, updated notifications in the bottom panel, out-of-the-box support for A2DP, a complete office suite, Steam for Linux client, Wine and PlayOnLinux for Windows gamers, Dropbox and MEGA clients, and out-of-the-box support for the latest Nvidia, ATI, and Intel graphics cards.

Additionally, the distribution comes with a very large driver base, built-in firewall and antivirus software for keeping your OS secure at all times, a great collection of themes and wallpapers, unique desktop widgets powered by Conky, Makulu Constructor for creating personalized versions of MakuluLinux, a great selection of software packages for everyday use, several third-party PPA repositories, an optional Liquoriz kernel, and support for 32-bit architectures.

Among other interesting features found in the new MakuluLinux Unity 8 distribution, we can mention support for many Apple devices, including MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, MacBook, iBook and PowerBook laptops, support for Toshiba laptops, TLP advanced power management tool, Netflix and PopcornTime, as well as Compiz-powered desktop effects and transparency for some apps.
