DONKEY.BAS, a game that was co-written by Bill Gates and came pre-installed on some IBM computers in 1981, is now available for iPhone and iPad gamers in the iTunes App Store.

Priced at just $0.99 (0.79 EUR), the game redefines the expression “blast from the past” with truly old-school gameplay mechanics and graphics.

“We did this game as a tribute to the original,” XVision founder Johnny Ixe told BGR. He said they added a few new features to the game so that players can distinguish it from the original.

The object of the game is fairly simple - avoid the “curious” donkeys that keep appearing on your racing track by switching lanes.

DONKEY.BAS is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad. It requires iOS 5.0 or later.
