Satellites aren't exactly cheap these days, even if they are more affordable than ever before. But with more companies looking at ways of building cheap but useful satellites, things are starting to look interesting.

In fact, more recently, companies have started going beyond the utilitarian and creating projects that stretch the dividing line between art and science.

The latest such example aims to be the first pop art object in space, a satellite with a fun side. Quite literally, one side of the satellite will serve as a celestial charging station for any aliens in need of some juice.

Created by Iam8bit, the satellite will also function as a weather-monitoring tool. The satellite itself will be built by spacecraft manufacturer Clyde Space. It's set to launch on October 29 from Kazakhstan.
