ASUS might not have joined the wearable gadget market yet, but it soon will, as the company chairman has just confirmed.

Of course, seeing as how so many other strong brands are doing this (Samsung, Sony, etc.), for ASUS to miss out would be odd.

According to ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih, the company will launch a smartwatch this year.

It might release other gadgets as well – the reveal will take place at Computex after all, in June – but the first will be a watch.

“There are actually many challenges in this area, and I don’t think products that lack special features will be useful. We’ll try to replace your watch by all means, ” Shih said during Asus’ year-end celebrations.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 Smartwatch will probably be the main competitor when sales finally begin, in the second half of the year.
