Indie developer Over The Moon has just announced that the crowdfunded adventure and platformer hybrid The Fall has received a release date and it's due out on May 30.

The company has also released an announcement trailer, offering a hint at the upcoming game's contents. The Fall is designed to be an episodic game that blends the best of Super Metroid and the Monkey Island series, by offering a unique perspective that transcends both genres.

"I've wanted to make a game like this for as long as I can remember, but I never knew how to make it happen" says John Warner of Over The Moon studios.

"Thanks to Kickstarter, we were finally able to not just create The Fall, but to really push it in interesting directions. We've got a really unique story with some engaging ideas, some very compelling gameplay, a beautiful world to explore, and a fantastic cast of professional actors, with a strong female lead. The Fall has become the game I've always wanted to play, but couldn't find," he reveals.

The Fall features a unique storyline that has players take on the role of A.R.I.D, an artificial intelligence that pilots an armored combat suit, in an attempt to help the human occupant who lies unconscious inside, in desperate need of medical attention.

The main goal of the game is to blend point-and-click adventure games with the frantic action of platforming shooters in a smooth way that creates a rich and compelling experience, centered around exploration.

As such, The Fall is set in a richly detailed world, a dark and distant sci-fi universe rendered in a heavily atmospheric manner inspired by one of the genre's modern classics, Limbo.

Players will be able to solve fun and creative puzzles, designed in the vein of adventure classics, as well as find organic solutions to them, that will reveal the game's larger narrative.

During her quest to aid the human occupant of the suit, the artificial intelligence will find herself in a bizarre situation that will make her question the rigid protocols she has to follow, as well as the very essence of her existence.

Over The Moon's creation is designed to reveal its story over three acts, only the first of which will be released initially, with the other two to follow later on.

The Fall is coming out on Steam for PC, Mac and Linux, on May 30, 2014, and a Nintendo Wii U version is also in the works, to be launched at a later date.
