Another step in the Yahoo - Facebook integration

Yahoo is continuing its love affair with Facebook with another move towards deeper integration. The Facebook News Feed is now available inside Yahoo Mail for users who linked their Facebook account with their Yahoo one. All updates in the News Feed will show up among the updates from the Yahoo network. The feed works just like the Facebook News Feed and enables actions like comments and ‘likes.’

“Today I’m thrilled to announce another new integration launching to all users that enables you to view, comment, and like your Facebook news feed items – all right from Yahoo! Mail. Facebook activity from your friends will now appear in your Updates section, alongside your friends’ activity on Yahoo!, Twitter, Flickr and so on. Now you can get all your Updates in one place, right when you log in to Yahoo! Mail,” Tony Cheng, a software engineer at Yahoo Mail, wrote.

Yahoo Mail already had an Updates section, which features the status updates from your contacts in the Yahoo network. Of course, since Yahoo Updates aggregates these statuses from various sites and social networks, it was already a great way of keeping up with your friends no matter where they hanged around.

With the entire Facebook News Feed at your disposal, though, Yahoo Mail has just gotten a lot more interesting. All the entries show up in Mail just like they do on Facebook. You can also comment on the items or like them and the actions are instantly synced with the social network. Normally, the updates from both Yahoo and Facebook show up in the same stream, but you can view them separately as well, if you want to.

Yahoo and Facebook announced a partnership at the end of last year, which would bring all manner of Facebook data and features to Yahoo properties. Yahoo Mail has seen a number of Facebook-themed features starting with the contacts import tool to enabling users to post Facebook status updates from the Mail app.
