Maybe the French media is not so critic of Zidane because all of his achievements in the last 15 years, but the international one is certainly blaming the French star for his horrible gesture in the 110th minute. If we are to start with the English media - a country that had to business with the higher stages of the World Cup - Zidane should never read the newspaper from now on.
Here are just a few titles of today's newspapers about Zinedine Zidane's fault:
-"Shame
on you, Zidane" -
The Sun;
-"Zidane was a disgrace, but France should blame Domenech" -
The Guardian;
-"Zidane bows out as a disgraced star" -
The Mirror.
Well, it's not like we're not blaming Zizou for his gesture, but to call him a disgrace is a little bit too much. I mean what about those phenomenal passes or incredible dribbling in the World Cup? Let's not forget how he carried France on his shoulders until the final phase of the tournament.
Of course, his fault on Materazzi was horrible, but he is certainly not a disgrace and he didn't let his team down. What he did was that he had a moment of madness that should not keep us away from observing his true performances in the competition. If France got so far, it was because of him. Even Lippi stated that his former pupil should not exit the world of football with this image.
Let's be very clear on one thing. What happened to him after the foul was punishment enough. Nobody even thought about how he felt after passing through the World Cup trophy. Let's think about that, for a change, and then accuse him of a "disgracing attitude".
