People are getting excited over the news that legendary rock band Pink Floyd is coming out with a new album after all these years, but the announcement is bitter-sweet because it's just been confirmed that “The Endless River” is going to be the last one in the history of the band.

Speaking on the matter, band members Nick Mason and David Gilmour realize that this is frustrating for the fans and admit that it's a “shame” that this is going to be the end of their musical careers in terms of creation.

Pink Floyd is not coming out with new material after "The Endless River"

Gilmour told British media quoted by Contactmusic that “This is the last thing that will be out from us, definitely. I'm pretty certain that there will not be any sort of follow up to this. Polly, my wife, thought that would be a very good lyrical idea to go out on. A way of describing the symbiosis that we had. It's a shame but this is the end.”

The fact that most of the album is composed of tracks that were recorded and created by Richard Wright prior to his death in 2008 means that the album is a tribute to the member of the band, a nice way to say goodbye to their departed friend.

However, there are still bits left over from the recording sessions of 1994's “The Division Bell,” which Gilmour plans to use for a further solo album. He confirmed that he planned to put the music to good use.

Gilmour will use some Wright samples for a future solo album

“I have a little bit of Rick playing on some sessions that I did for my solo stuff. I still have some tracks with Rick playing on them that will hopefully appear on my next solo album. So there will be a little bit of Rick to come but not on a Pink Floyd album,” he said.

Another interesting bit of news that popped up in the media related to “The Endless River” album was the fact that physicist Stephen Hawking was going to be featured on one of the songs featured inside, a song called “Talkin' Hawkin',” using a sample of his voice from a 1994 British Telecom advert.

This is not the first time that Hawking's voice is featured in a Pink Floyd song. Hawking also made an appearance on the 1994 song “Keep Talking.”

“The Endless River” includes 12 tracks either written or co-written by Richard Wright and is expected to be released on November 14.
