Developer ZeniMax Online and publisher Bethesda did not surprise gamers with the announcement that The Elder Scrolls Online was moving to a free-to-play business model, and now the two companies are ready to offer details on the items the newly introduced Crown Store will offer when the switch is made.

Game director Matt Firor says in a blog on the official site that the company is not modifying the core game mechanics in any way in order to convince players to spend money in the online marketplace.

He explains, "We're adding customization and convenience items in the Crown Store, but those will be added to the game as it is now; we're not going to make it harder for you to enjoy the game you already play to encourage you to use the Crown Store."

The developers are saying that the items gamers can purchase can be used to improve the look of their character or to save some time.

For the second category, similar items will be offered as drops or can be crafted by players who are not willing to pay for them.

Firor claims the team does not intend to introduce the kinds of purchases that would put other players at a disadvantage, and he also reveals that there are plans to introduce experience boosts at one point.

The developers are also saying they will continue to take care of long-term players, which means that they will get a new Mask of Cheerful Slaughter, a unique costume which will be offered to all those who have subscribed from April 2014 until March 2015.

All those who have played The Elder Scrolls Online since launch will also get a special Striped Senche mount.

Gamers who are willing to continue to subscribe will also get 1,500 Crowns to spend in the store, which will allow them to easily get the new items they are interested in. Moreover, they will be able to pick up all the downloadable content launched during the period they are paying for the title.

For the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 versions of The Elder Scrolls Online, gamers will get an option to transfer their data as long as they are willing to pay 20 dollars or Euro for a Tamriel Unlimited version of the game and they already own the title on the PC or on Mac.
