The game is dropping its monthly subscription tomorrow

The Elder Scrolls Online is being relaunched without its monthly subscription fee, dubbed The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited.

Just like ArenaNet's Guild Wars 2, the game will only require the initial purchase, after which all access is free forever, without needing to pay any additional money.

ZeniMax Online Studios is launching the game tomorrow, and the developer has released a brand new trailer, going over the game's features, and showcasing some of the improvements made since its launch last year.

When the massively multiplayer online role-playing game was initially released, it received a lukewarm reception from critics and gamers alike, being critiqued for its lack of focus and satisfying end-game content, as well as for the large number of bugs that players encountered.

Since then, many have abandoned the title, leaving it with a gradually diminishing player base, which prompted ZeniMax Online Studios to make the shift to a subscription-less experience.

Furthermore, the developer has also issued a number of updates in the year that has passed, adding a ton of new features and fixing many of the ones that the community complained about.

The game has received a ton of additions since launch

The upcoming The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited comes bundled with all six major content updates released so far, including veteran dungeons and adventure zones, party-based challenges, and a bunch of improvements to existing systems.

Furthermore, the new champion system makes the leveling process faster and adds a bit more complexity and strategy to how you craft your character.

The multiplayer component has also been revamped, and guilds can set up stores for guild members to use, and guilds can customize their tabards in a more satisfying manner.

Furthermore, monster density and loot drop frequency have been increased from the early days of the game, and dungeons have received daily rewards and challenges, in order to provide more replayability.

Furthermore, the developers have addressed one of the main gripes many gamers had with the game, by adding a Justice System, enabling them to truly become thieves, pickpocketing and stealing their way to greatness, provided, of course, that they can evade the vigilant eyes of the law.

Further additions include an in-game Crown Store, selling various cosmetic and convenience items, which players can purchase using real money, meant as a replacement revenue stream, in the place of the monthly subscription.

The Elder Scrolls Online is also coming to the Xbox One computer entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 home console from Sony this summer, on June 9.
