When The Elder Scrolls Online was revealed by developer ZeniMax Online and publisher Bethesda, the developers suggested that they would offer players three core factions to choose from, and now official details have been offered on one of them, the Daggerfall Covenant.

Matt Firor, the game director working at ZeniMax Online on The Elder Scrolls Online, told Game Informer that, “There is a lot of historical friction between the redguards and the bretons.”

He added, “There have been a lot of little wars between them, and there has been as much internal fighting in High Rock as there has been with external provinces, but it’s a much more settled area and a little more peaceful.

“The Bretons have given the orcs their own homeland within their territory, and all three races like and respect each other. This faction is a lot more democratic than the others.”

The Daggerfall Covenant includes the province of High Rock, in the northwest of Tamriel, with its fertile lands and mild weather and its Breton population and their uneasy relationship with the Orcs.

The Hammerfell is almost the complete opposite, with large deserts and arid mountain only occasionally broken up by grasslands and the main population made up of the Redguards.

The two races are also very different: the Bretons are fine folks with a lot of magic abilities and finely tuned intelligence while the Redguards are quick and well built, ready to stand on the frontline in any battle.

The Orcs are seen as aliens by most inhabitants of Tamriel, but they are tough and very capable in a fight and make some of the best armor in the realm.

The Elder Scrolls Online will allow players to choose a race and a class and then join one of three factions in order to battle the Imperials and their undead army.
