14 DAY TRIAL // Bethesda and ZeniMax announced earlier this week that they’ll release The Elder Scrolls Online, a MMORPG set in the popular universe, but this announcement hasn’t exactly gone well with fans of the franchise that prefer the current single-player games.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was launched last year by Bethesda and impressed millions of people despite the fact that it had no multiplayer mode, instead relying just on a top notch open world and complex RPG mechanics.
Even so, quite a few people expressed their desire to experience the world of The Elder Scrolls with their friends.
Now, Bethesda has unveiled that ZeniMax Online Studios is working on The Elder Scrolls Online, a multiplayer-oriented RPG experience that will be out in 2013.
While many were excited, quite a few fans of the series don’t approve of this major change in strategy.
As such, according to Games Industry, they’ve flooded the Bethesda blog with angry comments through which they express their disappointment.
Many believe that The Elder Scrolls Online will mean that Bethesda won’t focus on creating new single-player experiences, forgetting the fact that a whole new studio is actually creating the MMORPG.
Bethesda representatives have started addressing these concerns and emphasize that the two studios have worked together but they’re still focused on their own projects.
"The teams working on these games are separate. Todd Howard's team at BGS will keeping doing the type of games they like making, and the ZeniMax Online team will focus on MMO games like this newly-announced title."
Many fans, however, have understood the message and are quite excited about the possibility of playing an Elder Scrolls experience alongside their friends.
Unfortunately, no other details are available about The Elder Scrolls Online just yet, but expect more things to appear once people get their hands on the latest issue of Game Informer magazine, which has an exclusive cover story about the MMORPG.
