A couple of weeks ago, ASUS's CEO Jerry Shen stated that his company would sell approximately
5 million Eee PCs by the end of 2008. According to his very optimistic estimations, this would account for 50% of the netbook market, leaving all the other competitors responsible for the rest of the 5 million netbooks sold. Nevertheless, even if these sub-notebooks
haven't yet started to be shipped to the company's selling partners, the ASUS Eee PCs are now available for pre-orders over at Amazon.com.
ASUS' much-anticipated Eee PC 901 is expected to be released tomorrow, so you should hurry up with the registration for your order in case you want to get your hands on one - especially since 57 % of the users that have viewed the Amazon.com Eee PC 901 webpage have already placed their orders. At least, that's what the site's own statistics are telling us as of now.
The price tag of the ASUS Eee PC 901 netbook is set at $599.99, as displayed on the Amazon.com website, and with it you get 20GB of storage space in a Pearl White chassis. There is also a 12GB version, as well as a Black Pearl one available, although there is no a price difference between these models, which is rather strange.
The netbook will be shipped to customers after it arrives at Amazon, although there's no clear indication of when that will happen. So, placing your order now will pretty much be a chance game, as you will not know when your product will arrive. But with the Eee PC 903, 904 and 905 just around the corner, the nagging question is: are you really ready to spend $600 for a product that already has improved variants?
For example, the
Eee PC 904 is expected to come with an improved keyboard and storage capacity, and will sell for less than the Eee PC 901, meaning for approximately $528. To sum it all up, if you are looking for a real netbook offer, maybe you should consider waiting until the 904 becomes available on the market.
