The company formerly run by Steve Jobs is marketing its iOS Apple Store application as being the best way to upgrade your existing iPhone to the latest version.

The app itself has not been updated - only its description has (but they forgot to put in new screnshots featuring the iPhone 4S).

Speaking about the Apple Store application for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, Apple says “It’s the easiest way to get an iPhone 4S - right from your current iPhone.”

“Wherever you are, you can research and buy products, read reviews, make Genius Bar and One to One appointments, view in-store events, and more. And when you’re in an Apple Retail Store, you can request help, meet up with a Specialist, and more. Here’s what you can do with the Apple Store app,” reads the description.

Apple carefully outlines that customers will be able to get rate plans only for AT&T and Verizon Wireless through the Apple Store app.

To buy an iPhone with a Sprint plan, customers must visit the Apple Online Store or an Apple Retail Store.

But this is just one of many traits the Apple Store app has. Via its intuitive interface, users can research and buy not only iPhones, but any Apple product, accessories, and software and get these shipped to their door.

You can use it in a real Apple (retail) store to request help, check in for reservations, or meet up with a Specialist or a Trainer. And it also offers an option to make Genius Bar and One to One reservations and sign up for workshops and events. Other advertised features include:

- Get free iPad and iPod engraving and signature gift wrapping for select Apple products. - Custom-configure a new Mac with the options you want, including larger drives and more memory. - Reserve iPhone and other select products for pickup at an Apple Retail Store.
