It's a good start from Sony, but DS3 compatibility on the PS4 would have been the real hit

Sony has just made good on one of their promises regarding the Dualshock 4 controller, which has been touted as compatible not only with its native consoles, but with all kinds of other devices such as PCs, PlayStation TV and microconsoles.

The Japanese electronics giant has stealthily added PlayStation 3 support for the PlayStation 4 controller, as some folks on Reddit report that it is now possible to utilize the DualShock 4 controller with the PS3 wirelessly.

The connection needs to be made via Bluetooth, and initially requires a wired connection in order to set up, as well as syncing in the PlayStation 4's Bluetooth Device Manager. The controller, however, functions in a pretty gimped manner for now, lacking vibration functions and Sixaxis functionality, as well a rendering the PlayStation button inactive, but it's a good start nonetheless.

The PlayStation 4 controller is arguably superior to the DualShock 3, but the real gem would be for Sony to find a way to allow their customers to use their PlayStation 3 controllers on the PS4.

DualShock 3 controllers tend to be in a more abundant state than the PS4 ones, not to mention that they just sit idly and weep when friends want to join in a quick local multiplayer bout of TowerFall and are unable to do so due to a lack of compatible controllers.
