FlexiSpy criticizes the security company

Let me present you the story so far: FlexiSpy, a solution especially designed for Symbian and Windows Mobile platforms, was released in May, causing an interesting dispute with security companies. In fact, it was only one firm that decided to continue the talks with Vervata, the parent company of the mobile solution. Basically, F-Secure's security products flagged the program as dangerous and encouraged users to stop using it. The F-Secure team described the application as the first Trojan horse for the Symbian phones. On the other side, the owner of FlexiSpy sustained that its tool is 100 percent safe to use and F-Secure is a little bit paranoiac if it flags the solution as dangerous.

Today, the story is continued with a new statement made by the producers of the mobile solution who sustained once again that their product is clean and doesn't represent a threat for the mobile phones.

"FlexiSPY is not a Trojan, nor a Virus and DOES NOT REQUIRE the purchase of F-Secure Mobile Antivirus products to remove it. An uninstall option is provided for the User, so the application can be removed at any time. Configuration settings are also available to allow frequency of connections, thereby allowing the user to minimize network connections to once daily if required," the parent company sustained.

However, F-Secure informed the users about the risks of using the application since May 2006 while other security companies also reported malware notifications about FlexiSpy.

"Like any other monitoring software there may be a possibility for misuse, but there is nothing inherent in FlexiSPY that makes it illegal or malicious, and Vervata would like to point out that F-Secure comments categorizing FlexiSPY as a Trojan are completely incorrect and they are simpy fear mongering to sell a product that really does not have an compelling reason to exist at this time," the company added.
