Media-oriented semiconductor provider IDT has just announced the availability of its general-purpose VPP1600EMG DisplayPort receiver with timing controller. The device can be included in flat panel displays for both PC monitors and LCD TV displays.

The PanelPort receiver can deliver screen resolutions of up to 1920x1200 on two differential pair lanes. According to the company, the PanelPort can improve the signal integrity by reducing electromagnetic interference on all the display's interfaces, and will target at the OEM vendors who cannot implement timing controller customizations.

"As a significant proportion of display manufacturers are seeking to integrate DisplayPort technology into their products in 2008, we see a large market opportunity for IDT," said Ji Park, vice president and general manager of the IDT Digital Display Operation. "IDT ties well into this burgeoning opportunity as it has a rich history in developing products based on its serial interface and timing expertise. We've leveraged that expertise with our existing TCON technology and the result is our PanelPort device," he continued.

IDT's latest addition to its DisplayPort technology portfolio is compliant with the DisplayPort 1.1a draft standard and supports full video interface with HDCP 1.3 digital rights management protection. The immediate benefits in using IDTs technology will reflect in costs and video quality.

The PanelPort receiver uses four lanes and supports amazing resolutions of up to 2560x1600 at refresh rates of 60Hz (WQXGA) for monitor panels and two lanes for 1920x1080 resolutions in notebook panels. Moreover, the new DisplayPort receiver supports cabling of 15 meters without any signal loses or image distortion.
