Some say that the digital era in music has sent traditional storage to its doom, and they are somewhat right: one can rarely buy vinyls these days, while cassettes have become strongly obsolete. Even CDs are feeling the menacing development of the online environment as more and more new customers rely on the digital formats and buy tracks they can play on their mobile phones, portable media players and so many more similar devices. Yet, there are a lot of people who still own vinyl collections and appreciate their unique sound... and for them Denon has come up with a new tool.

The Denon DP200USB is a nifty audio gadget targeting those who can not or simply will not part from their collections and are looking for methods to preserve the contents of those records. And since the best way to keep these vinyl songs forever is to digitize them, the DP200USB sports pretty much everything one needs to give a new life to the old records.

Instead of assembling a complex studio-grade gear-rack, all you have to do is dust off the old records, put them on the platter of the Denon DP200USB, have a digital storage solution at hand, set the right speed and hit play. This cool gadget will automatically transform the audio tracks in MP3 files and store them on the designated external storage, thus allowing you to transfer them on digital players, computers and handheld devices, as you wish.

The Denon DP200USB supports 33 1/3 and 45 RPM speeds, thus being compatible with pretty much all the existing records. Even more, the USB port allows you to connect the Denon DP200USB to a vast array of USB devices and, this way, expand the usage of this technology. Shipping will start in early November and the announced price is around 235 Euros (approx. $315); indeed, not the cheapest among similar solutions, but since it's a Denon, high-quality results are surely expected.

Just picked this up from Listenup.com (the only US seller I could find at this time, but a great retailer none-the-less). I moved up from a 15-year old Denon turntable. Connected to a new Denon AVR-2309ci with a Definitive 5.1 surround, I'm insanely happy with the DP-200USB. Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors" may have been on CD or digital media for all I could tell; gorgeous quality. The actual USB mp3 transfer capability worked for me without a hitch and enabled a simple tranfer from record to iTunes within minutes. I'm a Denon fan anyway, but their products speak for themselves. I love this device and had only been waiting for a reputable manufactorer to enter the USB turntable market before taking the plunge. I'm glad I went for it. Thank you Denon, and that's to Listenup for making the product available domestically.
